Prickly…

This splendid pervy cactus, though neither fruit nor vegetable, clearly deserves a posting because it looks like a willy!

Here’s another obscure fact. Did you know that in ancient Greece there was a vegetable related punishment for adulterers and a specific word for the description thereof…

Rhaphanidoô means, literally to thrust a radish up the fundament, a punishment of adulterers in Athens.

I am sure if they could see this picture, those who had been punished in that particular manner would be thanking their lucky stars that they had to endure nothing more than a brisk run in with a radish!

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, here is a splendid site for you to visit. Though not strictly vegetable, the Banana Museum does, nonetheless, have a fruit related theme since it is just that, an extensive collection of all things banana orientated or banana shaped. The museum is based in Washington USA but many of the items are presented on line for your virtual delectation.

Yet another for the “is it art?” category. A particularly clever one, pac choi carp. From this post we also learn that I am unlikely ever to gain employment as a tabloid headline writer.

Enjoy.

Vegetable Music…

Today a friend introduced me to the Vegetable Orchestra.

They are based in Vienna and play music on instruments constructed entirely from vegetables. They have even made a video…

The film shows members of the orchestra buying suitable vegetables in local supermarkets and markets, making them into instruments in the comfort of their own kitchens and then performing, live, to a packed theatre of fans. It seems they even make recordings…

Presumably, instruments which have outlived their usefulness are eaten.

The Vegetable Orchestra’s website can be found at: http://www.gemueseorchester.org
